It is so 2017 to have only one income source! You need some quick wins and some long term strategies to boost your income for travel.
All the cool kids, or just the super smart and business savvy, have multiple streams of income. In this day and age with the growth of internet entrepreneurship, digital nomad lifestyles, Instagram and side hustles, you’d be mad not to tap into it and earn some extra dollars.
There has never been a better time to work for yourself, or at very least earn some more cash on the side of your regular gig.
This is by no means an exhaustive list but it is designed to give you an idea of options
Tips To Boost Your Income
Short Term
Take up jobs on Airtasker or Fiverr
Sell your unwanted belongings on eBay, Facebook Market Place or Gumtree (why do you want “stuff” when you can have experiences around the world?)
Have a garage sale (but make sure you deposit the cash into your travel fund)
Ask the local “oldies” in the neighbourhood if they need odd jobs done for some “pocket money”
Review your bank accounts and close any that charge fees (not really income but a saving) Secondly, find one that offers cashback each month. Finally, open an interest-bearing savings account, because, literally free money!
Freelance online (this list is truly endless)
Long Term
Rent out your spare room (however be vigilant in your background check, you don’t want someone who is NOT going to pay rent on time)
If you own a house, consider putting it up on Airbnb, or even renting it out fully (you could live with friends/family, or go travelling!!)
Ask your boss for a pay rise (know your worth, and be prepared to spell out exactly why you deserve a pay rise and what reasonable $$ you are after before doing this)
Get a second job
Buy some shares (yes an outlay of money to start with. But, research it properly and purchase ones that pay good dividends and are within your risk appetite)
Sign up for Uber/Uber Eats, as a driver
If you have a creative side (eg art, jewellery making, flower arranging, woodwork, cake art etc) get making and therefore sell your goods online or at local flea markets
Monetise a blog. If you google ANYTHING, that means there are other people out there wanting to read and know about that same thing. Hence, there is a market out there for the things you’re interested in. Write about it and monetise it.
Use Instagram. (yeah, yeah I know!) It is such a great marketing tool for your own personal brand, your blog or your business. Therefore, if you’re able to tap into it, you can make decent money from it. (stop rolling your eyes)
Don’t forget to check out my post on how to save for travel once all this extra money starts rolling in. Don’t be tempted to spend the money if you get paid in cash. Take that money straight to the bank!
