If you want to watch the Orca, Sperm Whales, Pilot Whales, and Sunfish, January to April is the best. From July to October, Southern Right Whales start coming to Bremer Bay to give birth. The small remote town of Bremer Bay is approximately 180kms east of Albany and around 500 kilometres from south of Perth. Getting to Bremer Bay is easy! You can either drive all the way there or take a flight from Perth to Albany and take the bus from there. However, if you drive you will be able to enjoy picturesque views and sites of Western Australia and the exotic wildlife. Rent a car, fill up the tank, and set off on a journey of a lifetime.

The best way to spot Orcas

Bremer Bay is known for the largest congregation of Orca in the southern hemisphere during peak season.

The best time to watch Orcas and other whales is during the first few months of the year. Alternatively during the latter part of the year when southern right whale migrations start. If you want to see these whales up close booking a tour expedition is your best chance.

If you visit during the latter part of the year, head to Fitzgerald National Park and one of the viewing platforms at Point Ann. You will be able to see these beautiful creatures tossing and turning on the sea’s surface.

How to prepare for your Bremer Bay whale watching expedition

If you want to make sure everything goes smoothly and you don’t have to face any last-minute problems, you should prepare in advance. Start by pre-booking your accommodation. This is because Bremer Bay is a small town with limited accommodation capacity. Plus, during peak season the heavy influx of tourists means all the hotels are going to be booked in advance. So, make sure you have your accommodation sorted out before you get there.

The next thing you need to do is keep your seasickness tablets with you because you will be spending upwards of 8 hours on the sea over 50 km away from land, and the last thing you want is to get seasick. Also, make sure you let your touring company know about any special dietary requirements that you might have so they can plan in advance.

Other than that all you need to do is get excited and have the time of your life.
