My In flight Routine

People Inside Commercial Air Plane

It begs the age-old question’s chicken or beef, coffee or tea, red or white, window or aisle?
Well for me it’s chicken, coffee, both and it depends 😉 When I fly long haul it’s always aisle, so my in-flight routine is never missed. Let me explain!

Aisle vs Window

If I’m flying 4 hours or less, flying into my home town of Adelaide or into a new city, during the day, then it’s 100% window.

If it’s a long haul, overnight, landing in the dark, then it’s 100% aisle.

Being a solo traveller means it’s just me…duh!

So, when I’m in the window seat I immediately feel trapped. I like to have the freedom to get up, wander around, stretch and most importantly go to the bathroom when I want. I also don’t like to continually disturb people.

For a short-haul, a window seat is fine. I can deal with that. Also if it’s a new city like New York, trust me when I say, I’m sitting in the window seat!

The long haul is a different story.

If it’s a long haul flight I absolutely prefer to be in the aisle. I like to stretch my legs out (into the aisle when it’s safe). I can get up at my own leisure and I have access to the overhead bins. Plus a longer flight means you get more food and drinks, so that means more bathroom trips.

The overnight long haul comes with its entirely own routine. Once up in the air and the seat belt sign has come off I like to take off all of my makeup and lather my face in moisturiser. (To be honest, this could be done on any long haul flight, it doesn’t need to be an overnight-er.)

The air in planes is notorious for drying your skin out. For me, it’s important to try to counteract that immediately.

My Long Haul In Flight Routine

The first step is to get all your makeup off and the days dirt using a face wipe.

But wipes alone don’t get off all the make-up and dirt off. It will take off most of it but it generally just pushes it around your face. You need to do a face wash too.

The bathrooms are tiny and most taps are on timers. So a bit of skill and patience is required. Some taps even require constant pressure for the water to flow,  so this can get quite interesting, and a little messy. (Always wipe the basin, bench and floor with a paper towel for the next passenger. It’s just common courtesy)

Don’t be this woman in the bathroom!

Next, I wash my face with a foaming facial cleanser then splash my face clean with water. Pat your face dry with your small face towel (that you packed in your carry on) Avoid rubbing your face, especially with the paper towels provided. Ouch!

Spritz your face with some hydrating mist toner and allow that to dry naturally.

I then apply a healthy amount of restorative night cream on my face and neck.

Put some eye drops in. You can’t forget to keep your peepers moisturised and lastly apply some reviving eye cream under your eyes.

The skin under your eyes is very thin and needs to be looked after with cream day and night (and from the earliest age possible. I started using eye cream in my late teens)

Time to Relax and Prepare For Sleep

You’ve washed your face, you’re all lathered up in moisturiser, now what? It’s time to head back to your seat for a couple of hours. Kick back, watch your first movie or read your book and just relax.

Dinner or Lunch service will begin shortly after take-off and once the seat belt sign has been turned off.

Order yourself a glass of red with your meal. But just one. Alcohol is dehydrating.

Don’t forget to drink water too. Hydration is key on a long flight, and water is always best.

Keeping hydrated internally also assists your skin externally, so drink up! Plus you’re in the aisle, so easy access to the bathroom.

Now you’ve eaten and had a little glass of something, that should aid in making you a wee bit sleepy (or is that just me) Go and brush your teeth, but take a glass of water that has been poured for you from the flight attendant. Who knows where the water comes from out of the tap.

Get yourself comfy with your neck pillow, blanket, slip your eye mask on, your earphones or earplugs in and get as much sleep as you can.

Or just watch a shit tonne of movies and repeat tv shows…haha

What Products Do I Use And Recommend For My In Flight Routine

About a year ago I discovered Sukin Skin Care products and I’m obsessed.

They are Australian made, cruelty-free, use all-natural ingredients, are paraben and alcohol-free and vegan too.

They use ingredients such as rose, chamomile, coffee, coconut, macadamia, vitamin E, orange, hibiscus, goji, lavender and aloe vera. Deelish!

So I know they are great for my skin and the environment.

They have a huge range of products too for the face, hair and body.

I also love their coffee and coconut Exfoliating Masque. I try to use this when I’m home in Australia at least once a week (not whilst flying though, I don’t want to scare people!)

Best of all they have travel sizes, so you can take them as carry-on.

I’ve linked a few of my favourite products for you below.

Foaming Facial Cleanser

Hydrating Mist Toner

Moisture Restoring Night Cream

Antioxidant Eye Serum

Exfoliating Masque – Coffee & Coconut

Preparing to Land

I like to carry mascara, eyebrow pencil and a little blush with me on board. I like to just freshen up a little before disembarking with some light makeup, nothing too crazy.

It’s good to do this, if you choose to, straight after the last food service. As you get closer and closer to landing there will be a mad rush for the bathroom, plus the seat belt sign will be turned on and will remain on for about 20-30 minutes prior to actual landing.

What do you think of my in-flight routine? Do you have one?

Disclaimer: this is not a sponsored post. I am a real user and lover of Sukin Skin Care and I have not been paid. These are my genuine opinions.

Sharing is caring!
