Your comprehensive list of items to take to any travel conference and why. Some of these items are no-brainers but some you may not have considered.
Notebook
For obvious reasons, for all those notes you want to take. It is also proven that you are more likely to remember something that you have physically written down.
Pencil Case
A great place to keep all your stationery in one convenient location instead of floating around at the bottom of your bag
Pens
Consider taking 2-3 pens. You never know when one might run out. It’s good to have a few backups
High-lighters
High-lighters are great for those really key take away’s. They help draw your eye straight to the information when you’re reviewing your notes later.
Post it notes
An excellent tool to use, so you can find a page in your notebook quickly.
Fresh Breath Items
Yeah, I’m talking mints and floss people. Networking means meeting and talking with lots of new people. Best to do it with fresh breath and no leftover spinach, from lunch, in your teeth…Ewwww
Business cards
You’re going to want to have all of your socials and contact details in one easy to hand over location. Swapping Instagram handles on phones and following up is clunky and probably won’t happen. It’s much easier to hand over a business card or send a virtual business card. Don’t forget to ask for theirs in return and keep that all-important conversation flowing.
Business card holder
The perfect place to store all your newly acquired business cards. Also, an easy location to have open next to your laptop when you’re writing all your follow up emails. Read this post to see why that’s important
Hand Sanitiser
Keep your hands feeling clean after all those introductions and handshakes.
Tissues
Some keynotes and speeches may leave you a bit teary, you never know! And for other obvious reasons! Bless you
Lipbalm
All that talking, networking and air conditioning is going to leave your lips dry.
Smartphone
Great for photos of other people, you with your favourite blogger or of the slides up on the screen. Also for note-taking if your little thumbs can go that quick.
Sweater / Jacket
Conferences and hotels generally have their air conditioning up high so to feel comfortable at all times, carry a lightweight sweater with you.
Snack Items
You should be fed at a conference but good to have a small snack in your bag. Think muesli/granola bars, nuts, muffins or fruit. Just make sure you’re not opening noisy packaging whilst someone is talking (read: super annoying and super disruptive, don’t be that person)
Satchel or Backpack
Unless you want to carry everything in your hands you’re going to need a bag of some description.
An Open Mind
There is going to be a lot of knowledge dropped at the conference and networking. Keep your mind open to every opportunity and everyone you’re about to meet
